Extensions are not interchangeable. Each system behaves differently on the nail, and the right choice usually comes down to your natural nail condition and how you use your hands.
Acrylic
The most durable of the three and the most forgiving to repair. Acrylic suits anyone who is hard on their hands or wants significant length. It is rigid, so a knock tends to transfer force to the natural nail rather than flexing. A full set runs 50 minutes, with fills scheduled every two to three weeks.
Liquid gel
Lighter and more flexible than acrylic, with a naturally glossier finish and less odour during application. It suits shorter to medium lengths and thinner natural nails that would feel weighed down by acrylic. It takes about an hour for a full set.
Gel-X, the Japanese manicure
A soft gel tip bonded across the whole nail rather than built by hand. Because it is a full cover tip, it is quick to apply and comes off in a straightforward soak rather than a file down. That makes it the gentlest option for anyone whose nails are recovering. It takes about 90 minutes.
Dip
Sits between the others in weight and gives a very hard finish without a lamp cure. Good for natural nail overlays where you want strength but not length.
If you are not sure which fits, say so when you arrive. It takes two minutes to look at your nails and give you a straight answer, and that is a better use of the appointment than committing to the wrong system.
